Chail

The picturesque hill station located amidst scented forests of chir pine and gigantic deodars. Chail is built on three hills, the palace is on Rajgarh Hill, the Residency Snow View once occupied by British resident is on Pandhewa Hill and on the third hill Sadh Tiba where Chail is situated. Overlooking Satluj Valley, Shimla and Kasauli are also visible at night from here. Chail has also the highest cricket ground in the world. Well kept and well maintained the ground is surrounded by huge trees of deodar and pine. On the other side of the town are situated the massive Himalayan ranges spectacularly gleaming in the sun and snow-covered every thing under it.

Chail Sanctuary

A former hunting reserve of the Royals of Patiala Kingdom, Chail Sanctuary was declared a wildlife sanctuary in 1976. This sanctuary perched at the top of the mountains, at varying altitudes from 701 meter to 2180 meter above sea level provides for great views. The area has a dense forest cover with pine trees, shrubs, oak trees and grasslands. 
Many wild animals can be spotted here, including rhesus macaque, Indian muntjac, leopard, crested porcupine, panthers, wild boar, goral, European red deer, Himalayan black bear, sambar, common langur and black-napped hare to name a few. Different species of birds can also seen here, including Cheer pheasant and kalij pheasant. This is a must see sanctuary for wildlife lovers and bird watchers alike

Chail cricket ground

Amidst of the dense forests of pine and deodars, Chail cricket ground has the spectacular distinction of the world’s highest ever cricket pitch, at an altitude of nearly 2,144 meters above the sea level. This cricket ground is well maintained and is constructed by the Maharaja of Patiala more than 200 years back in 1893. It is also used as a polo ground. 
It is established in the cantonment area of army and hence it is as such is out of bounds to common tourists and locals. The place is very cool and picturesque.
